Panaji, October 25: Indian film industry’s icon, Amitabh Bachchan,today said that his endorsement of healthcare-related initiatives is a result of his escapades in several hospitals after meeting with accidents during the shootings.
“Lot of it came into my mind after my several escapades in hospitals and ICUs due to my accidents during shooting,” Bachchan told reporters in Goa today.
The megastar, who turned 67 last week and who is a patron of several healthcare campaigns incuding HIV, polio, cancer, eye donations, has now got associated with Britain-based Silverstar Charity, an anti-diabetic initiative.
The charity launched India’s first Mobile Diabetes Assessment Unit in Goa with more units planned in cities like Mumbai and Delhi in near future.
Silverstar founder and British MP Keith Vaz and Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat was present along with Bachchan for launching of the initiative in Nagoa village on Margao-Panaji highway. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function, Bachchan said that this is a first small step in the diabetic healthcare, which will go a long way.
The megastar lauded Goa government’s several healthcare initiatives which have made the state unique in this sector.
Vaz, a British MP with Goan origin, said that Bachchan’s act of getting diabetic test with the charity in UK encouraged many who came forward and got themselves tested for this lifestyle related disease. .
