BIE steps increased students’ strength in junior colleges: Kadiam

Stating that the Telangana Inter Board has achieved award for its good service, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadium Srihari has said the percentage of students has increased in big way in junior colleges due to free education, free distribution of books, development of infrastructure in intermediate colleges increased the enrolment of the students in Junior Colleges.

Reacting to various queries raised by members Bajireddy Goverdhan, Gadari Kishore, M Sudhir Reddy (TRS), NVVS Prabhakar (BJP) on Junior Colleges during Question Hour in the Assembly here on Friday, Kadium Srihari said there were 404 government junior colleges in Telangana State. The government allotted Rs 31.14 crore in 2014-15, Rs 69.41 crore during 2015-16, Rs 115.67 crore during 2016-17 to the Intermediate Education.

 He also said the government constructed buildings for junior colleges and additional class rooms, additional toilets and Compound Walls in the last three years by spending Rs 275.39 crore. He informed that 401 intermediate colleges out of 404 colleges have own buildings and the government didn’t construct buildings due to lack of adequate land at three places. He said that the government was providing free intermediate education and free distribution of books since 2015-16. He said that the government conducting special drive to improve the enrolment of students. The government was providing computers by setting up digital classes for digital education.

The government was providing adequate equipment and modernising the practical labs to make practicals compulsory in intermediate education. The government was providing sports equipments to encourage sports in intermediate colleges. In 2014-15 the student enrolment increased to 77,763, in 2015-16 the students increased to 82,581 and 2016-17 the number of students increased to 90,716. The government was contemplating to set up intermediate colleges in mandal head quarters as appealed by the members, he said. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government was examining setting up of junior college in Thirumalgiri in Thungathurthy constituency.

The government was also contemplating to provide mid-day meal as urged the members. He said that the government made intermediate services online and one can get all certificates through on-line. The Intermediate Board has taken best intermediate board award recently in Delhi. He said that the quality of education in intermediate colleges improved well in tune with the initiatives taken by the State government. (NSS)
