Bid to hoist BJP flag on Masjid sparks communal tension in UP

MEERUT: Communal tension arose in Uttar Pradesh village after saffron party’s supporters tried to hoist the BJP flag on a mosque.

According to Times of India reports, the incident happened in Chancharai village of Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. With a population of 2,000, the village has Hindus and Muslims in equal number.

On Wednesday night, at around 9:30 pm, some youths with tilaks were taking out a procession by playing drums celebrating BJP’s victory. When the procession reached the Masjid, few of them tried to hoist the flag on the mosque’s roof.

When some of the Muslims objected, it result in an altercation, Mohsin Ahmad, a villager who was present during the incident told TOI. The police reached on time and prevented the situation from worsening.

After the incident, there is an atmosphere of fear in the village because the villagers alleged that the youth had threatened that they will bring weapons and sword next time.

Shyam Vir Singh, SHO of Jehangirabad said that police and Provincial armed constabulary (PAC) have deployed around the mosque and in the village and the matter is under investigation.

At the same time, BJP has alienated itself saying that some anti-social elements have carried out the incident.
