Bid to defame Islam: PG student Archana wear burqa to steal, nabbed

Hyderabad: In yet another attempt to defame Muslims, a burka-wearing PG student was arrested for pickpocketing on City RTC buses.

8.6 tolas gold worth 2.6 lakh, silver ornaments, cash and other valuables were recovered from her possession.

27-year-old P. Archana, a native of Medak district is a PG (Psychology) student of Osmania University distance education. Her father is a school teacher in Narsapur in Medak.

Using the traditional veils to conceal her identity, Archana used to board crowded Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) city buses to taregt woman passengers.

“She is a psychology graduate and she was pursuing PG in psychology from OU in distance mode. She used to get into RTC city buses from Kukatpally to ESI, ESI to Maitrivanam and Maitrivanam to Panjagutta during rush hour to target her victims. She would select busy points to commit the offence in crowded buses. She stole from the passengers’ bags while standing behind them. She would steal wallets, valuables and expensive jewellery and quickly get off the bus,” said West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police A. Venkateshwar Rao, reported Deccan Chronicle.

The crime team from the SR Nagar police station after receiving complaints from her victims trapped her.

To satisfy expensive desires and to maintain a lavish lifestyle, Archana, for the past six months, has been committing the crime unrecognisably by using the traditional Islamic clothing and looting her co-passengers.

Police registered a case and sent her to judicial remand.
