Bid to abduct Chand after reunion with Fiza, 3 hurt

Mohali, June 15: An unsuccessful bid to abduct Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad from the house of his estranged wife Anuradha Bali alias Fiza was made on Sunday evening, police said.

A group of about 100 people tried to abduct Chand Mohammad from Fiza’s house, where he had returned back after almost five months, Mohali police said.

Upon receiving the information, a police team, led by ASI Sohan Singh, reached the spot but the mob attacked them.

Singh had to open fire in defence in which one Ashok Kumar of Hisar sustained bullet injuries in his feet and was shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment, police sources said.

Two head constables Ram Sarup and Sarwan Kumar also sustained injuries after the mob attacked the police party, Phase XI SHO Sub-Inspector Deepinder Singh said.

A vehicle allegedly used by the mob was impounded by the police.

Members of Shiv Sena staged a demonstration in front of Fiza’s house, the SHO said, adding that Chand and Fiza are safe and their statements will be recorded on Monday

Earlier in the day, Chand Mohammand had returned to his estranged second wife and apologised for “past mistakes”, months after declaring publicly that he had divorced her, but Fiza remained non-committal on a “reunion”.
