A woman who had transformed the whole Hasannagar area into Gudumba Khana ran off with her family.
A woman named Bibi Packet resident of Mahmood Nagar had been selling gudumba for the past 12 years and making the elders, youth and even children habituated to drinking. This woman had become head ache for the respectable Muslims of the area. A report regarding the immoral practices of Bibi packet was published in Siasat on September 16, 2011. Encouraged by the move the locals in large number including women invaded Bibi Packet’s house yesterday raising voice against the illegal business of Bibi Packet but unfortunately Bibi packet and her family members had fled till then.
However, intimated by a 12 year old boy who was present at the house, 20 bags full of gudumba packets were recovered from the house.
A local woman Shameem Begum who was the forerunner in the protest told that Bibi packet enjoys full backing of police and rowdy elements. She told that her 25 year old brother-in-law died a week ago because of his habit of consuming gudumba and several other youth have also become prey to her illegal practices.
Bibi Packet has a strange and interesting way of delivering gudumba packets. The gudumba packets are filled in a sack and the sack is dropped with the help of a rope at the shore of Miralam tank. A boy sits there holding the rope. Whenever any customer comes there he pulls the rope and gives him a packet of gudumba at the cost of 10 rupees. It should be noted that Hasan Nagar is purely predominated by Muslims.
