Bhubaneswar: Gold biscuits worth Rs 76L seized from train passenger

Khurda Road: Fifteen gold biscuits worth over Rs.76 lakh have been seized from a passenger at Bhubaneswar’s Khurda Road Railway Station. The suspected smuggler has also been arrested.

The accused was in Guwahati to Chennai train, when he was arrested by a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team from the station on Sunday.

“He was carrying a total of 15 gold biscuits with Myanmar markings. He had hidden it in the pockets of his inner vest and shoes,” the DRI’s official statement stated.

Each gold bar weighs nearly 2.5 kg.

Earlier yesterday, the DRI also arrested a passenger from Nellore railway station and seized more than 4-kg gold.

The passenger was travelling from Guwahati to Tambaram in Guwahati MS Express, when he was intercepted by the DRI officials.
