Varanasi, August 20: A large number of girl students staying in a hostel complex at the Banaras Hindu University today hit the roads protesting the decision of the varsity administration to accommodate more inmates in their rooms.
The agitating students staged a sit-in at the hostel complex and also tried to stage a march towards the office of the Vice Chancellor.
Security personnel at the campus stopped their march midway, the inmates said alleging some of them were roughed up by the guards.
The girls said the hostel complex was fully occupied with over 700 students already staying there.
Still the authorities wanted one more girl to be accommodated in each room, they said.
Despite persuasion by some teachers, the sit-in and the protest was still on, varsity officials said.
