Professor Anand Chaudhury, the Head of the Department (HOD) of Ayurveda at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), said on Saturday that although Dr.Bhaswati Bhattacharya’s allegations have put the university’s historic legacy at stake, it cannot be denied that the latter deserves justice.
Dr.Bhashwati Bhattacharya was allegedly molested by five men on April 22 within the BHU campus. Varanasi Police had refused to file an FIR in the case.
“We got to know about this incident through the media and I would like to thank the media for bringing this to the forefront. The area which she spoke of has always remained heavily guarded. This university has had a historical legacy. And such allegations have put the university in bad light which uneases us. When the incident took place, Ms Bhattacharya neither informed the university authorities nor the supervisor, or else, the matter could have been taken to the chief proctor’s office for immediate investigation. We were in the dark for a long time. She needs to get justice,” Professor Chaudhury told ANI.
He further stated that her long overdue FIR application, filed in April this year, that suggests molestation taking place within the university premises, should immediately be taken into consideration.
“We have put charges of loot, robbery and molestation,” said Jogendra Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police. (ANI)
