Bhopal, August 10: (Pervez Bari): An Indian Islamic scholar of eminence Maulana Habib Rehan Khan Nadvi Azhari, who was based here in Bhopal, passed away on Saturday morning at about 8 a.m. after protracted illness.
Maulana Rehan is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters along with his brothers Maulana Saffan Nadvi and Dr. Mohammad Hassan Khan. He was 74.
His funeral was attended by several hundred people which included both the elite of the town and commoners from all walks of life. His Namaz-e-Janazah was led by Maulana Peer Saeed Miyan Mujaddadi, the Rector of Dar-ul-Uloom Taj-ul-Masajid. He was laid to rest in Bada Bagh graveyard
He was the founder of a research centre at Bhopal named Dar-u-Tasneef-wal-Tarjuma. It was inaugurated by his father Late Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan Nadvi Azhari on August 23,1972.
Maulana Rehan had his education in the world famous universities of Nadwatul Ulma in Lucknow and Jamia Azhar in Cairo (Egypt). All his life he remained associated with teaching profession and research work. For over two decades he taught Arabic and Islamic studies in a university of Libya.
He was decorated with President of India’s Award for his services towards Arabic language last year. He also authored a number of books both in Arabic and Urdu languages. He was member of number of educational and research institutes’ committees all over India. He was also member of Markazi Majlis-e-Amla, (MMA), of All India Majlis-e-Mushawarat from 2004-07.
