Hyderabad, October 30: In yet another big catch, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today trapped the commissioner of Bhongir municipality when he took a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor.
The commissioner demanded the amount as a ‘reward’ for issuing a cheque to the contractor, ACB officials said.
On a complaint by the contractor, ACB sleuths laid a trap and caught the municipal commissioner, L Baloji, at his residence at Ramanthapur in the city today morning when he accepted the bribe.
The commissioner took the amount through his driver-cum-relative, B Lalu Naik of Seethya Tanda in Nalgonda, an official release said.
Baloji and his driver were arrested and would be produced before a special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, a sub-inspector of police was dismissed from service by the government after the Tribunal for Disciplinary Proceedings (TDP) held the charges against him of possessing disproportionate assets as proved.
The SI, who formerly worked in East Godavari district, G Rajah Veera Venkata Satya, was earlier found with disproportionate assets in searches conducted by the ACB.
The government also ordered for confiscation of Rs 2.02 lakh fixed deposit belonging to the SI.
