Pune: A bail application was filed in Pune Sessions Court on behalf of Sudha Bharadwaj, one of the five activists arrested on August 28 in the Bhima Koregaon violence case, by advocate Yug Chaudhary on Thursday.
On September 28, the Supreme Court refused to grant relief to the five activists- Vara Vara Rao, Sudha Bhardwaj, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and Gautam Navlakha. They have been put under house arrest since August 29.
Earlier, the apex court turned down their request for setting up of a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to look into the matter and allowed the Pune Police to go ahead with the probe. The court asked the activists to approach an appropriate forum and go to trial court for relief.
The five accused were arrested from various cities for their alleged involvement in the violence that erupted earlier this year during the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle. One person was killed and many were injured in the clashes.
Earlier, the Maharashtra government, in an affidavit, told the Supreme Court that the activists were “members of banned terrorist organisation Communist Party of India (Maoist)”.
