Bhopal, August 10: (Pervez Bari): “Public Sector Enterprises are also facing greater challenges of rapid transformation of global economy and women employees have to play a great role at this juncture ”, said Anil Sachdev, Director (HR), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), Bhopal unit, said during the inaugural session of the Inter Unit Meet of BHEL’s forum of WIPS today.
Applauding the diligence of WIPS, BHEL in organizing this first inter-unit meet aptly at its ‘Mother unit’ at Bhopal, he assured the commitment and resolution of BHEL to extend its logistic support to arrange more such interactive workshops, productive discussions and deliberations which would provide in-depth inputs for evolving and refining a more decisive frame work to better the career growth of working women.
He further exhorted the women employees to acquire new skills and competencies and continuously upgrade their knowledge so as to enable them to counter the fierce competition in the global market and to keep flag of BHEL flying aloft in its pristine pride. About 100 delegates from different units of BHEL participated in this meet with innate zeal and zest.
M. K. Dube, Executive Director of Bhopal unit, chaired the session. While appreciating the splendid contributions of women employees in accomplishing the production targets of the company, Dube emphasized the need of a complete overhauling of the mindset of the working force especially of women workers through pragmatic approach. Quoting the now famous campaign slogan “Yes, we can” that played a key role in Mr. Barack Obama’s historic victory in USA, he tipped the career women to adopt the same attitude for their success in the corporate ladder.
The corporate office was represented by Ms. Sally Masters, GM (HR), and Ms Suguna Swaminathan, National General Secretary of WIPS. Ms Sally Masters in her speech elaborated on the historical compulsions that led to the formation of WIPS, its envisioned objectives and goals while Ms Suguna Swaminathan explained the development of WIPS through decades and various activities conducted in the past at national, regional and unit levels.
Earlier, Dr. Sarla Menon, Coordinator of WIPS Cell of Bhopal unit, in her effusive opening address welcomed all distinguished guests, invitees and main target audience of delegates and brought in a few challenges in a woman’s professional career for further deliberations during the meet.
The inaugural session was followed by an enlightening lecture on Legal rights and privileges of women in India by Justice N.S. Azad, ex-Justice of Jabalpur High Court.
The meet ended with vote of thanks by Daisy Bhalla, Joint Secretary of WIPS BHEL Bhopal cell. The main inaugural session was ably handled and compeered by Ms Veena Pradhan, Co-coordinator of WIPS Bhopal cell. (pervezbari@eth.net)
