BHEL Bhopal Unit registers a record turnover of Rs.4780 cr.

(Pervez Bari) India’s giant Public Sector Undertaking, (PSU), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), Bhopal Unit has registered a record turnover of Rs.4780 crore ($935.311 million USD) exceeding the set target of Rs.4778 ($935.283 million) during 2011-12. This is a hike of nearly 19 per cent growth over the previous year 2010-11 which was Rs.4208 ($823.709 million). The unit also earned a profit of Rs.801 crore ($156.722 million) registering a growth of 15 per cent over last year’s profit before tax (PBT).

Addressing a crowded Press conference here on Wednesday Mr. S. S. Gupta, Executive Director of BHEL, Bhopal Unit, made the above announcement here. He shared the performance highlights and achievements of BHEL, Bhopal Unit during the financial year 2011-12 in the Annual Press Conference. All General Managers and Sr. Executives of the PSU were present in the Press Conference.

Replying to a question Mr. Gupta said that on the export front, the BHEL, Bhopal Unit also registered a growth of 19 per cent over the previous year and total turnover in Exports amounted to Rs.1637 crore ($320.290 million). He said the company had export orders in hand worth about Rs.2113 crore ($413.579 million) from countries like Congo (Africa) and Bhutan. The company has exported electrical equipments to Vietnam, Tajikistan, Rwanda, Bhutan, Italy, Afghanistan and Nepal, he added.

Declaring a target of Rs.6003 ($1,174.45 million) for current fiscal year, he said that keeping in mind the present business prospects in the power sector, the turnover target for 2012-13 is definitely a challenging task. But the committed and skilled workforce of BHEL, Bhopal can turn out this challenge into reality. He highly applauded the role of Representative trade unions of the unit in helping to meet the target and congratulated the workers, Junior Executives and Executives for working as a team and making BHEL flag fly higher. He congratulated the employees for achieving excellence on all performance parameters and appreciated their undaunted efforts and commitment. He also mentioned the current modernisation and expansion plans of the unit towards capacity augmentation.

Mr. Gupta also highlighted the recruitments made recently and managements’ efforts to provide them better facilities. He mentioned the CSR initiatives taken up in the unit and a special grant of Rs.50 lakhs package for Government college in the township under CSR. Highlighting the steps taken to renovate and modernize BHEL township, he also said that all out efforts are being made to make Kasturba Hospital the state of the art hospital.

It may be pointed out here that Heavy Electrical Plant, Bhopal is the mother plant of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related and infrastructure sector, today. With technical assistance from Associated Electricals (India) Ltd., a UK based company, it came into existence on 29th of August, 1956. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of India dedicated this plant to the nation on 6th of November, 1960.
