Hyderabad: The TPCC OBC Cell on Saturday felicitated newly-appointed CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan here. The program was organized by OBC Cell chairman and senior Congress Leader J Chittaranjan Dass and it was attended by senior party leaders from the BC community like V. Hanumantha Rao.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhatti Vikramarka thanked party president Rahul Gandhi for appointing him as CLP leader in the State Assembly. Stating that he had no grudge against any party leader, Bhatti said he had been demanding that the party high command allot tickets to the BC leaders. He said it was always his wish to see the party coming into power at the Centre in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Vikramarka said there was a need to strengthen the party and the practice of appointing leaders, who had lost elections in the party posts should be done away with. He also said the Assembly and Lok Sabha constituency in-charges should be appointed after consulting the local party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Hanumantha Rao said it was always the practice of the party high command to appoint a leader from upper caste as the CLP leader in the State, but party supremo Rahul Gandhi recognized the importance of weaker section leaders in the party and appointed Bhatti Vikramarka as the CLP leader. He also said Rahul Gandhi appointed the weaker section leaders as Chief Ministers of three States Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh after registering historic victories in those States.
He demanded that the Centre hike reservations to the OBCs like it did for upper caste people in the country. VH alleged that thousands of BC leaders had lost an opportunity to become sarpanches due to the decrease in the reservations for the BCs. He urged the party high command to felicitate all the 2,700 party leaders, who have won the elections as sarpanches.
