Bharat Bandh:Protest turns violent in Noida

The two-day mega nationwide trade union strike began on Wednesday with normal life being hit in many states and cities across the country.

The strike turned violent in Noida in Uttar Pradesh, adjoining Delhi, after factory workers resorted to violence in Noida Phase II. They pelted stones at some factories that had opened and burnt vehicles, including a fire engine. The police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the restive crowd.

Reports said some policemen were also injured in the violence.

While widespread impact can be seen in states like Delhi, Punjab, Bihar, Haryana, Kerala, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, the situation is relatively better in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
