Bharat bandh evokes mixed response in Andhra

Hyderabad, July 05: The nationwide bandh called by NDA and Left parties to protest fuel price hike evoked mixed response in Andhra Pradesh.

The bandh was partial in the state capital and other cities like Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

Former chief minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu were among the prominent leaders arrested while staging protests.

Bus services were partially withdrawn in most part of the state as the day wore and agitators blocked highways and district roads. All schools, colleges and universities in the state remained closed.

According to police, as many as 3,724 people were taken into preventive custody throughout the state. About 30 RTC buses were damaged by the agitators.
