Let alone the new generation even the parents would be nonplussed if we ask them the names of Ummahat-ul–Momineen or Ashra Mubashira. In contrast to that they can easily count the names of dozens of serials telecast on television and a number of actors’ and actresses’ names performing in them.
It has been learnt that such dialogues and scenes displayed on television channels these days, were not given approval by the sensor board even for the adult films in the decade of seventies.
These serials are produced keeping in mind a particular mission, setting a particular target and their aim is to set the society on a particular path.
Now a days the programme ‘Big Boss’ aired on ‘Colours’ channel and ‘Rakhi ka insaf’ telecast on NDTV Imagine have become talk of the town. ‘Big boss’ presents scandalous personalities who utter such indecent dialogues and indulge in such vulgar activities that a decent person would not like to watch them even when he is alone. ‘Big Boss’ who takes strict action against simple disciplinary violation doesn’t consider inappropriate to put on show sensational scenes and abusive language. When a section of the society raised voice against the nudity and obscenity promoted by ‘Big boss’, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting claiming the two reality shows as “Adult Shows”, restricted the channel promoters to air ‘Big boss’ and ‘Rakhi ka Insaf’ between 11 pm to 5 am. However, owners of the channel challenged the ministry over its decision and finally got stay order from Mumbai high court.
It is sad state of affairs that despite being aware of the ill effects of the television, responsible persons of our community remained mute over the issue. Had we taken any initiative, other brethren of the society would also have supported the cause as the Hindu society too doesn’t permit obscenity.
Head of the family knows that his daughters and daughters in law watch such absurdities still he doesn’t prevent them from doing so.
Recitation of Quran is rarely heard in our homes but bhajans are heard more often thanks to the television as every serial displays Hindu festivals as part of their show.
Sadly women who watch these serials have memorized the bhajans and ashloks. It is a pity that the father who is regarded as the door of heaven and the mother under whose feet lies the heaven; don’t feel ashamed when their daughters watch these obscenities and vulgarities in their presence.
