Bhagwat followed by Modi on DD

Like every year, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed in the special programme on occasion of Vijayadashmi. But this year, Mohan Bhagwat’s speech will be followed by India’s public sector broadcaster Doordarshan (DD).

The two speeches did not see any ‘clash’, as they were a few of hours apart. Modi would be on radio whereas Bhagwat’s speech will be telecast live by Doordarshan between 7.15 am and 7.30 am.

Bhagwat’s speech is likely to be live streamed on the internet by RSS’ IT team from Reshmi Bagh, in Nagpur.
Historian Ramachandra Guha expressed discontent over the coverage of DD, “The RSS is a sectarian Hindu body. Next, imams in mosques and priests in churches may ask that DD covers their speeches live!”

Bhagwat, in his speech which has already become controversial due to the coverage of DD, may open Sangh’s card on the Maharashtra Assembly poll.

“DD is run by public money. So how is government using it to broadcast RSS Chief’s speech? Very unfortunate,” said Rashid Alvi of the Congress.

Ramachandra Guha also wrote on Twitter, “I hope someone files a PIL against DD’s plans to cover the RSS chief’s speech live. This naked state majoritarianism must be resisted.”
