Betting racket busted; 2 held

Hyderabad, April 09: A two-member cricket betting racket was busted by Task Force sleuths on Sunday and Rs 45,000 cash, a television, two mobile phones and other incriminating documents were seized from them.

The racket had been going on since the ICC World Cup 2011 and the duo were presently accepting betting on the ongoing IPL matches.

According to Task Force DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy, the organisers of the gang were operating from rented flats and were frequently shifting to avoid being caught by the police.

The accused are M Bandari, a businessman from PG Road and native of Rajasthan, and Sharat Sony, a financier from Kacheguda.

“The duo are friends and knew that cricket betting fetches good returns and started accepting bets illegally from punters since the World Cup-2011,” Kamalasan Reddy said.

The duo used to take flats on rent, procure a television, furniture and mobile phones with SIM cards on fictitious names and addresses.

The duo took a flat in Vishnu Residency at Gandhi Nagar and were accepting bets through mobile phones on Saturday’s Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings match played at Eden Gardens, when Task Force sleuths raided the premises and caught them.

The accussed were handed over to the Musheerabad police for further action.
