The sleuths of police station Banjara Hills busted a cricket betting racket and arrested 11 people and seized net cash Rs: 7. 5 Lakhs, 40 cell phones, Lap top, TV and other equipment.
According to police, on credible information that some persons were accepting betting for IPL T20 cricket match being played between Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Bangalore Royal Challenge on Tuesday, the police Banjara Hills apprehended the organisers Bommi Reddy Ramprasad Reddy and Bommi Reddy Giridhar Reddy at Sri Satyasai Nigamanagam in Srinagar Colony.
Police said that they were caught red-handed while accepting betting through phones. They led the police to ARCA Sarovar Apartments at Gachibowli where they made set up with the assistance of other accused for accepting of betting from punters over cell phones. Police raided the premises and seized an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh, one line box (10 lines connected cell phone equipment), TV, Laptop, recorders, 40 cell phones, calculators, accounts books from their possession. The punters are mostly from Proddutur town of Kadapa District.
A case in Cr. No: 425/13 U/s 3 & 4 AP Gaming Act has been registered at PS Banjara Hills and investigated into.
On enquiry, police said, it has come to notice that the main organizer Bommi Reddy Ramprasad Reddy was running the cricket betting racket since last two years making profits in IPL matches. He was having connection with one Naresh of Akot (Maharastra) with whom he came in contact through stock broker Ramesh of Vijayawada and transferred big amounts of betting to him. The accused V Ganesh purchased the line box equipment at Bheemavaram which connects to 10 cell phones and being used in this betting racket.
They also used recorders of every conversation for proof of betting. This organised group of racket is consisting of organizer, accountant, technical supporter and others.
The other accused arrested in the case are Peddaputta Venkat (Accountant), Vonteddu Sudhakar Reddy (Partner), Sangapali Chandu (Maintains line box), Assistants – Palla Prasad, Beeram Narayan Reddy, Kalli Kiran Kumar, Ganjikiunta Govindu, Valireddi Ganesh and Eluru Vasu. (INN)
