The Telangana government is mulling options to enhance ex gratia to the kin of those killed and seriously wounded in terrorist and extremists attacks in the State.
Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy chaired a Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting attended by IT Minister K T Rama Rao, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma, Intelligence IGP Shivadhar Reddy and top officials at Secretariat on Saturday afternoon. The Cabinet Sub-Committee discussed the issue of terrorist attacks and favoured a hike in the ex gratia to the victims’ families. The meeting also discussed the need to increase age limit for candidates, who were appearing for examinations, to get into police department through a recruitment drive.
While expressing concern over the terrorist attacks, the Sub Committee meeting focused on other States offering ex gratia in similar cases. “Besides adopting best practices being adopted by other State governments in India, we must come up with the best financial package to the victims’ kin”, they felt. After going through the details, the next meeting will recommend the best financial package and submit a report to the government. The government will take a final call and announce the ex gratia which is expected to be the best one, a press release stated. (NSS)
