Mr. Mehdi Masroor Biswas (24) an employee of ITC in Bengaluru was arrested in December 2014 for suspected handling of pro-Islamic State Twitter account @ShamiWitness.
M. Chandrashekhar, Joint Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police said that Mr. Mehdi Biswas was charged with 8 sections of the Indian penal Code including unlawful activities, conspiracy, supporting a terrorist organisation, waging war against the State, sedition and promoting enmity. The charge-sheet was filed yesterday. It was alleged that he was aiding and abetting a terrorist organization through his Twitter account. Police seized 1,22,000 Twitter messages having more than 18,000 followers.
It was alleged that he was communicating his followers to glorify and spread messages to wage war along with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
The police alleged that his messages were found to be supporting the terrorist activities in the Jammu and Kashmir also.
Mr. Chandrashekhar added that police could not find any particular person with whom Mr. Mehdi was in contact, but he said that there is enough evidence that he had contacts with many fighters in Syria.
