Bengal teacher murders wife, arrested

Kolkata: A teacher in West Bengal’s East Burdwan district who hired hitmen to murder his wife but then went and committed the crime himself has been arrested, police said on Saturday.

The accused asked the hired killers to dispose of the body, police said.

“Ujjawal Bhaskar Ghosh, 40, was arrested for killing his wife Mahua Ghosh. He hired three criminals for the murder but himself committed the crime. During interrogation, he admitted the crime,” said Katwa Police Station’s officer-in-charge Sanjiv Ghosh.

Ghosh has given information about hired killers and a search is on for them, he added.

According to police, the body of Mahua Ghosh was found at the Panughat area of the distict on Wednesday but was not identified.

“Later on Friday, it was brought to our notice that Ghosh’s wife was missing for couple of days and the accused did not file any missing complaint. Accordingly, we detained and interrogated him,” the police officer said.
