Mumbai, July 06: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose nearly 60 points higher in opening trade today as stocks of companies like Reliance Industries and Infosys staged a moderate recovery on emergence of buying by funds.
The 30-share index, which had lost over 67 points in the previous two sessions, recovered by 59.50 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 17,500.94 points.
Likewise, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty gained 15.20 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 5,251.10.
Brokers said a revival in buying by funds and retail investors in heavyweight stocks, after remaining sellers over the past two sessions, influenced the trading sentiment.
They said, however, that a weak trend in Asian bourses, which were down by as much as 1.25 per cent in early trade on account of concerns over slower economic growth in the US and China, capped gains in domestic markets.
