Washington: Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have finally reached a custody agreement, but it is vague and for a very obvious reason- Ben’s struggle against alcoholism.
The couple long ago agreed to a joint custody of their three children. There were two elements to the agreement including legal and physical custody, reported TMZ.
The legal custody involves them to jointly agree on decisions that will affect their kids, such as education and several other activities.
However, the physical custody agreement is vague and it doesn’t outline any specific division of time with the kids for both the parents. According to TMZ, at the beginning, Garner will get the share of custodial time, and when Ben has the kids he will have a monitor to make sure that he is sober and the kids are safe with him.
The divorce was held up for a really long time because Ben has been struggling with the issue of alcoholism for a really long time now, and it has been on and off. Jennifer didn’t want to strike any custody arrangement until he gets sober and stable.
There is, however, another factor involved that their kids are older now and they may be aware of Ben’s problem with alcohol and how it has affected their family so far. Affleck has three children with Garner- Violet (12), Seraphina (9), and Samuel (6).
The 46-year-old star has been staying at the Malibu treatment facility. The two-time Oscar winner entered rehab for the third time in August and has been under treatment since then. He first went to rehab back in 2001, following which, in 2017, he announced that he had overcome alcohol addiction. However, in December last year, he had once again visited rehab.
