Beleagured Modi gets boost with KCR support on demonetization

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to extend his full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the demonetization issue in his endeavour to weed out black money, when he calls on him on Saturday.

The Chief Minister, who is leaving in the evening for New Dehi, is likely to meet the Prime Minister on Saturday to apprise him of the financial impact on the Telangana State’s revenue due to demonetization of big currency notes and seek assistance of the Central government to make good the State’s revenue losses. KCR, who had already reviewed the financial implications with the Chief Secretary and also various heads of departments seemed to have prepared a detailed report in this regard to be presented to the Prime Minister.

KCR is also likely to convey to the PM the TRS Government’s full support in the Union government’s determination to check corruption and also weed out black money. Thus at a time when the Chief Ministers of various non-BJP State governments were up in arms against Modi for demonetization, KCR’s support would undoubtedly given a boost to the already beleaguered Prime Minister. As a mater of fact, the TRS MPs did not join other Opposition parties, led by the Congress in creating a logjam in Parliament over the demonetization issue. What is more, the TRS MPS even lashed out and ridiculed the Congress leaders for disrupting the proceedings in Parliament instead of discussing and giving suggestions to ease the hardships of the people due to the sudden cash crunch after demonetization. While wanting the Centre to take all required measures to ensure that the common man, particularly, the farmers and daily wage earners, were not put to any hardships for want of required money for their daily basic needs, the TRS leaders asserted that disrupting Parliament proceedings would not help resolve the crisis. (NSS)
