Ministry of Civil Aviation has almost decided to handover old Airport of Hyderabad at Begumpet to Indian Air Force. Till 2008, Airport Authority of India was managing Begumpet Airport. This was started during Asif Jahi period. It was closed down on 23rd March 2008 for the civil passengers. All the flights and other operations were shifted to the newly constructed Shamsabad Airport. A proposal was sent to make arrangements of Hajj pilgrims from this Airport but it was not accepted.
Defence Minister, Mr. Manohar Parikar wrote a letter to Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju to hand over Begumpet Airport to Indian Air Force. It is reported that the officials of Civil Aviation have accepted this proposal and they have started making arrangements for handing over this Airport to Indian Air Force.
