Begging in UAE would land you in Jail with a penalty of Dh 5,000

Abu Dhabi: Begging, as we see in India, is a common sight and very often these beggars fake their disabilities are healthy and in shape, can easily earn through doing some hard work but lead a lazy life begging around making money just like that.

But UAE has recently passed an anti-begging Federal law with a fine of Dh 5,000 and imprisonment up to three months as announced by the Federal National Council (FNC) on Tuesday which aims to end beggary.

While the gangs operating the beggary circles will be serving six months jail term apart from a penalty of Dh 10,000.

And those who have an income and are in good shape and health if caught begging would serve the maximum punishment. Con artists cheating public with their emotions, faking disabilities also fall under same punishment category.

Recently a man in UAE was charged with human trafficking for forcing as many as 15 men into begging under Federal Law No. 51 of 2006.

The Ministry had also launched a nationwide programme to curb begging ahead of Ramadan which was followed by arrests of nearly 100 people begging in the country.

The ministry said that Ramadan month is just ahead and these beggars deceive people faking disabilities, emotions, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
