Hyderabad: With the conclusion of Global Entrepreneurs Summit, begging has been again started in Hyderabad. The beggars were provided rehabilitation in empty cells of city’s prisons, ahead of the Summit.
Hyderabad authority’s drive to make the city ‘beggar free’ seems to be turning yellow. Hundreds of beggars from the streets were arrested before Ivanka Trump’s visit to the state capital.
The government-run shelters where the beggars were lodged are now empty, as they are going back where they had come from, reported Hindustan Times.
“Now, only 10 female beggars are left with us in the Cherlapalli shelter. In the Chanchalguda shelter, only 30 beggars are left. All the remaining left the within no time,” K Arjun Rao, superintendent of the Cherlapalli open-air jail and in-charge of the Anand Ashram shelters, said.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad police are planning a new drive against begging from December 25. As per an official, those found indulged in begging would be provided counselling.
“If necessary, we would also offer employment opportunities to eligible persons among them in petrol bunks and other stores run by the department,” he said.
