YSR Congress Party honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma today claimed that the party has matchless popularity among the people. She implored upon the party activists to use it and ensure an astounding victory in the ensuing gram panchayat elections. She said to achieve this, leaders and workers would have to work together.
Addressing a meeting of party’s important functionaries at Sri Lakshmi Gardens on the Bonakal Road in Khammam on Thursday, she said workers and leaders should show the party’s strength as local body elections were the base for future victories.
Advising that even if there were small issues, they should be sorted out through mutual consultations, she said. She assured the party workers that she would always be available to them. She told them that all those who render hard work would have recognition and encouragement. She asked them to turn into exemplary leaders. She lamented that there was no leader now, who would create confidence among the people.
Referring to the Telangana issue, she said her late husband Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had identified the backwardness of the region. She also said that YSR had done all he could do for developing the region. She said the Pranahita-Chevella project would have been completed if YSR were to be alive. She claimed that YSR treated all the regions as equal. She lamented that the farmers were not getting remunerative prices which they got during her late husband’s rule. She criticized the government for shelving his welfare schemes.
Vijayamma said gram panchayats had become defunct as elections were not conducted on time. She expressed anguish that gram panchayats now turned to be abodes of corruption. She charged the government with postponing the elections under one pretext or the other. Charging the Congress and the TDP of collusion, she said it was their common aim to defame YSR. She asked her party men to spurn the manifestations of these two parties and ensure that the party won every gram panchayat. (NSS)
