Johannesburg : British tennis star Andy Murray has admitted that his arch-rival Novak Djokovic deserves to be ranked number one after losing five Grand Slam finals against the Serbian.
Djokovic became the eighth man in the history of sport to achieve a career Grand Slam as well as third to hold all four majors simultaneously after capturing his elusive title at Roland Garros on Sunday.
Despite losing the first set, the Serbian bounced back in imperious fashion to defeat Murray 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to win his first French Open title after suffering heartbreaking losses in his three previous finals in Paris.
Congratulating Djokovic on his 12th major title, Murray conceded that the Serbian’s performances over the last two years have been exceptional and described his achievements and meteoric rise as ‘rare thing’ in the sport, Sport24 reported.
A dejected Murray, however, vowed to emerge stronger from the defeat at the All England Club, where he won the Wimbledon title in 2013. (ANI)
