Mumbai : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash award of Rs. 21 lakh for the Indian women’s cricket team following their 3-2 ODI series win over New Zealand on Wednesday.
The Mithali Raj-led side won the fifth and the deciding ODI match by nine wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After bundling out the tourists for 118, India chased down the paltry target within 27.2 overs as Thirush Kamini (62) shared an unbeaten 103-run partnership for the second wicket with Deepti Sharma to lead the hosts to an emphatic victory.
“Congratulations to our skipper Mithali Raj on leading the team with distinction and registering a series win against the New Zealand. Team has shown remarkable character to come back from 1-2 to and win the series. BCCI would like to announce a reward of 21 Lakhs INR for the team,” BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said.
BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur also congratulated the team on the series win, saying it was a dominant performance and they deserve all the accolades.
“This five-match ODI series proved to be competitive and was a wonderful showcase for the skill and class of women’s cricket. It augurs well for the future. I would also wish to congratulate Mithali for reaching yet another milestone in her illustrious career of crossing 5000 runs. Well done once again for a stellar performance,” he added. (ANI)
