Tension prevailed when the BC students tried to lay seize to the Telugu Sankshema Bhavan, Masab Tank, demanding the State Government to allot budget for the fee-reimbursement scheme and increase the mess charges of the BC, SC, ST hostel students, under the leadership of State BC Student Association.
On Monday, thousands of students gathered at Sankshema Bhavan and staged a dharna. Later, they tried to lay seize to the Bhavan raising slogans “Increase Our Mess Charges-Not the MLAs and Ministers Salary”. The police obstructed the agitators, but the students tried to barge into the Bhavan. Suddenly the situation turned to jostling between the students and police. The irate police arrested about the 50 students and shifted them to Mehadipatnam.
Speaking on this occasion, the chief guest, State BC Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah has questioned the State Government, which has funds for the Fly-Over bridges, Ring Roads and Jalayagnam, as to why it was not allotting the budget for the students’ fees-reimbursement scheme. He demanded the Government to increase the hostel mess charges from Rs. 520 to Rs.1500 per month. He also demanded the State Government to increase the budget to Rs.2000 crore for the fees reimbursement scheme.
The student leaders Ryaga Ramesh, Neelam Venkatesh, Rama Goud, K Balaraj, K Srinivas, Chandrashekar, Narsimha Goud and others participated. (NSS)
