Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor’s demise on Monday is being grieved by all Bollywood fans in India as well as outside the country.
People are pouring in their condolences on social media, especially on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
When several news channels are giving tributes to the legendary actor, BBC News however in their coverage showed video clips of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, while remembering him.
The news anchor announced his death and played a visual of movie Kabhie Kabhie. But to everyone’s surprise, Shashi Kapoor was not showed and the visual was cut with Amitabh Bachchan’s feature, moving to a clip of Rishi Kapoor.
Shocking to note @BBC insults a veteran actor Shashi Kapoor by showing clips of @SrBachchan & @chintskap whilst reporting his death today!!!@BBC must apologize!!! Clearly they have no clue.
RIP Shashi Kapoor 🙏🙏🙏 pic.twitter.com/XMT4QJCy53

The BBC news channel was trolled on Twitter for their ‘ignorance’ in this way:

Come on @paulroyall. Apology and correction required. Lazy journalism. Next time a white actor dies will you show clips from any other random white actors movies and expect no complaints?

I was sitting there thinking "why the hell are they showing classic footage of Amitabh @SrBachchan"….and then realised that the person responsible for obituaries @BBCNews may indeed not be able to tell the difference…

A similar, rather witty response had come from MP Shashi Tharoor, when a typo had mistaken Shashi Tharoor for Shashi Kapoor by Times Now.

Tharoor, as always, was quick to reply.
We're getting condolence calls in the office! Reports of my demise are, if not exaggerated, at least premature. @TimesNow #ShashiKapoor https://t.co/nbtZGcdQTa

I feel a part of me is gone. A great actor, smart, cosmopolitan, impossibly handsome & w/a name that was often confused w/mine. (My office got two calls from journalists today about my reportedly serious ill-health!) I will miss #ShashiKapoor. Condolences2his family&all his fans pic.twitter.com/fSz3jafPZJ

Times Now then apologised for their typographical error.
We apologize for the typographical error on our end. @ShashiTharoor we wish you good health.
