Basic fare in Metro Rail fixed at Rs 8

Hyderabad, April 14: The state government on Wednesday fixed Rs 8 (up to two kilo metres) as the basic fare to be charged in the Hyderabad Metro Rail which is likely to be commissioned in 2015.

Principal secretary (urban development) TS Appa Rao in a notification said that the minimum fare will be Rs 8 and the maximum fare will be Rs 40 (unlimited use for the day).

Besides, the travel fare, the government has also announced basic fare for parking at any designated parking area of the rail system.

For parking four wheelers Rs 10 will be charged for the first two hours. Subsequently for every additional two hours Rs 5 will be charged.

In case of two wheelers for the first two hours Rs 4 will be charged and for every subsequent two hours Rs 2 will be charged.

Officials said the basic fares of both travel and parking charges will be revised annually for the next successive 15 years.

“The basic fares shall be increased annually, without compounding by 5 per cent thereof for a period of 15 successive years commencing from April 1, 2014.

The first increase of 5 per cent hereunder shall take effect on April 1, 2015, and the last fifteenth such increase shall be affected on April 1, 2029,’’ Appa Rao said.

Rules were also laid for the concessionaire about the discounted rates for frequent users of the HMR.

Passengers carrying luggage above 10 kg during non-peak hours have to shell out money.

Officials said at any time other than peak hours, a passenger with luggage in excess of 10 kg shall be allowed only upon the payment of Rs 1 per kg but the maximum luggage that will be allowed is 40 kg.
