Basaveswara statue at Tank Bund, separate Bhavan in Hyd–Lingayats urge CM

Veerasaiva Lingayath and Linga Balija community today urged Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to get installed a statue of Basaveswara, their ‘God’, on the Tank Bund to offer due recognition.
A delegation of the community led by Member of Parliament BB Patil today called on the Chief Minister at Secretariat here and appealed him to construct a separate “Lingayat Bhavan” for their community in Hyderabad. It is apt to give them due recognition by setting up a statue of Basaveswara on Tank Bund, who was noted for fighting in 12th Century for the cause of their community and uplift of the BC classes, they said. Keeping in view the large number of Lingayat population in Telangana State the government should given them priority by addressing their needs and protecting interests, they said.
They also sought political representation in legislative Assembly which now lacks it. Patil is said to have touched upon the gesture of the Chief Minister on his promise of building separate buildings for Banjaras, SCs, Kuruma communities in Hyderabad and wanted him to replicate it for their community. They also invited KCR to attend a community public meeting to be attended by about one lakh people to be held in Hyderabad. (NSS)
