Baroda Milk Dairy to bottle surplus Narmada water

Vadodara, August 16: Baroda Milk Dairy, maker of Amul products, will bottle surplus Narmada water it gets everyday from Sardar Sarovar Dam, its chairman Madhi Srivastav said today.

The purpose behind this is to supply Holy Narmada water across the country, he told.

The water will be available in pouches and jars besides bottles under the brand name of Narmada Neer, he said.

The profit generated through this venture will be distributed among 2 lakh milk producers who are members of Baroda Milk Dairy, he said.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi had directed to set up the Narmada Neer water plant to utilise five lakh surplus water supplied to the dairy by Sardar Sarovar Dam, Srivastava said.

Baroda Milk Dairy gets 10 lakh liter water every day from Sardar Sarovar dam against its need of five lakh liter, as the condition was laid by Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNL), a body established to construct the dam, when dairy management approached them for water supply.

The surplus five lakh liter of Narmada water would now be sold, Srivastav said, adding that the total cost of this plant is around Rs One crore.
