Bar girl caught for forgery

Mumbai, December 15: What happens when a bar girl makes friends with a sales tax man? Well, she lands up in trouble. This happened with Minoti Dhiren Pal, 36, a resident of Santa Cruz (West), who procured a PAN card and a driving licence by forging a ration card. She was arrested on December 12.

“The bar girl was arrested for forgery and cheating and was remanded in police custody till December 17 by the court,” said senior police inspector Balasaheb Pawar of Mahim police station. The police seized the PAN card from her.

Sales tax assistant commissioner Krishna Damodlekar, 57, used to visit ladies’ bars with his colleagues. During such a visit in 2007, he came in contact with Pal in a bar at Mahim. Soon, they became friends.

One day, Pal asked Damodlekar if he could help her procure a PAN card. She was told that a ration card was necessary for the purpose. Being a native of Bengal, Pal needed to get her existing ration card there cancelled and bring the cancellation certificate to make new card in Mumbai.

In June 2009, when Pal met the sales tax man, she told him that she procured the PAN card in 2008. When Damodelkar probed the matter, he found that Pal had submitted the xerox copy of a bogus ration card in order to procure the PAN card. A complaint was lodged with the Mahim police on September 1, 2009.

Pal also revealed that she also procured a driving licence from the Tardeo RTO with the help of her PAN card, and without any driving test.
