Bankers asked to release matching grants for housing projects

Minister for Housing Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday directed the bankers to immediately release the matching grant to housing projects of weaker sections in the state as per GO NO 42.

Addressing the Housing Sub-committee of State Level Bankers Committee meeting at his chambers in Secretariat, Uttam Kumar Reddy asked the officials to complete the ongoing Indiramma Housing projects immediately.

Principal Secretary (Housing department) Dr Manmohan Singh informed the Minister that the banks were not sanctioning loans to beneficiaries as they failed to open bank accounts. He said that about 3 lakh beneficiaries have failed to open the bank accounts so far.

Housing Board Managing Director B Venkatesam informed the Minister that the housing projects were delayed due to sanction of loan from the bankers.

Housing Commissioner A K Jain said that per unit cost of housing project was Rs 1 lakh. However, the bankers were providing Rs 72,250 per unit cost of housing project, he pointed out. Stating that 25,000 constructed houses were ready for the beneficiaries, he said that the houses would be handed over to them within a month for occupancy.

Rajiv Swagruha Housing Corporation Managing Director Shalini Mishra said that 35 housing projects have been completed with a cost of Rs 13,000 crores. She said that Rajiv Swagruha Housing Corporation has planned to construct G+14 storied buildings in future. (INN)
