Bankers asked to open branches in agency areas

Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy has said that the bankers have taken a decision to allot Rs. 2000 crore towards financing to Loan Eligibility Card (LEC) holders this year.

Speaking at the State Level Bankers Committee meeting here today, he said that the government was contemplating to give 12 lakh credit cards to the farmers and the bankers have to give loan targets to the respective district banks. He advised the bankers to take a decision on giving land rent to the tenant farmers as it was already giving scale of finance to them. He also urged the bankers to see that the decisions taken in the meeting were implemented properly.

Housing Corporation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that three lakh accounts were yet to be opened for the housing loan beneficiaries. He said that the bankers have assured in 2009 in this regard, but not yet fulfilled the assurance.

Tribal Welfare Minister P Balaraju asked the bankers to open their branches in the mandals in the agency areas. Due to lack of banks, the tribal farmers were traveling 70 to 100 kilometers to open the bank accounts. He said that due to lack of banks in agency areas, the tribal beneficiaries were facing lot of troubles.
Ministers Dokka Manikya Vara Prasada Rao, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Prasada Kumar, Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi and president, SLBC of Andhra Pradesh and Chairman and Managing Director, Andhra Bank BA PRabhakar were among those present. (NSS)
