Bangladesh’s literacy rate has reached 61 percent, a minister said on Sunday, two days before the International Literacy Day on September 8.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman said at a press conference that the literacy rate has increased substantially during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Xinhua reported.
He said the government has been striving hard through a number of projects to reduce dropout rates.
Around 13 million more poor primary school pupils will come under the government’s Primary Education Stipend Programme, which is now covering around 7.8 million students, he added.
