Bangladeshi women arrested for cheating

New Delhi, August 12: Three persons, including two 60-year-old Bangladeshi women, were arrested in the national capital for allegedly cheating several people by luring them to buy gold bricks and change foreign currency, police said today.

Their targets used to be ‘dhaba’ (road side food stall) owners and garment shop owners by luring them with the promise of selling gold brick or exchange foreign currency, a senior police official said.

The arrested persons were identified as Jamina, Aamiran and Mehndi Hasan, a 25-year-old domestic help.

They were caught following investigations into a complaint filed by one Dr Gupta in June that he was cheated of Rs two lakh by a person who visited his clinic as a patient a couple of times.

According to him, the patient promised to give Saudi ‘Riyal’ worth 2.5 lakh in exchange of Rs two lakh of Indian currency saying that a poor lady was known to him and was in dire need of money for the treatment of her ailing son.

“The doctor, in order to help the poor lady, agreed to meet her and gave her Rs two lakh. The doctor handed over a polythene bag which when he opened was found to contain soap wrapped in a stack of papers,” police said.

In another case, one Nandu Mandal, a ‘dhaba’ owner, reported that two men and two women contacted him and offered to sell him a gold brick.
