To understand the unique project structuring and engineering and financial innovation of Hyderabad Metro Rail, a delegation of senior officers and engineers of Bangladesh Government led by Additional Executive Director, Dhaka Transit Authority, Bangladesh, AQM Ekramullah called on HMR Managing Director NVS Reddy at Metro Rail Bhavan on Monday.
In a power point presentation, the HMR MD explained the challenges in the construction of mega urban infrastructure projects in countries like India and Bangladesh. He briefed the delegation on various aspects and innovative features of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, which is a unique infrastructure development project. He explained the technical specifications, financial model, communication strategies and the engineering solutions adopted by Hyderabad Metro Rail for resolving several complex issues.
Speaking on the execution of the project, NVS Reddy emphasised on the need for patience, tact, persuasion, careful documentation, etc., as the key requirements for project leaders implementing mega projects. He has also explained them as to how several sensitive and challenging issues were successfully resolved during various stages of the Hyderabad Metro project.
NVS Reddy informed the delegation that Hyderabad Metro Rail project is being executed not as a simple mass transportation system, but as an urban redesign project. He highlighted key features of the project like integration with other modes of transport, running of feeder bus services, creation of pedestrian facilities like sidewalks & street furniture and introduction of bicycle stations to reduce fossil fuel in order to transform Hyderabad into an eco-friendly global city. He further added that special security measures and amenities are being featured in the project for the safety of women, children, senior citizens and differently-abled.
Appreciating the engineering innovation, pre-casting methods, financial model and socio-economic objectives of the project, the Bangladeshi official delegation thanked NVS Reddy and sought his guidance for the upcoming Metro Rail project in Dhaka. The delegation later visited Nagole Metro station, Uppal precast yard and other Metro work sites. (INN)
