Dhaka : The Government of Bangladesh raised the retirement ceiling for freedom fighters to 60 years in public service amid demands to set the retirement age at 65.
The cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the decision. Later, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam briefed the media on the same.
Earlier,the Supreme Court upheld a High Court verdict that directed authorities for making the retirement age 65 from the prevailing 57 years, reports The Daily Star.
The apex court, however, said the government can take any decision regarding the raising of the retirement age of freedom fighters.
The Information ministry also placed the National E-Service Act 2015 at the meeting today, which the cabinet sent back without approval.(ANI)
