Dhaka, August 18: Bangladeshi security forces have captured five suspected operatives of a militant group active in Assam from their hideout in a remote hill district in this country”s southeastern region, officials said here today. The suspected members of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were taken into custody by army troops from Dighinala area of southeastern Khagrachhari hill district.
“Acting on a tip off, army troops detained the five suspected Bodo separatists from a hideout yesterday evening and handed them later to police,” a police official told PTI. He said a judicial magistrate court ordered them to be sent to jail to face intrusion charges as the suspected NDFB members were produced before him today. Police seized pamphlets, walky-talkies, mobile phone sets and Indian currency from the suspected NDFB operatives fighting in Assam for over two decades for an independent Bodoland.
The detained people, aged between 25 and 35 years, were identified as Oadhish Narzari, Pabitra Gowari, Dhiren Khakori, Jonatha Basumothari and Pradep Nargery. The development came a month after Bangladesh police arrested two Indians, believed to be operatives of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) having links with India-based Asif Reza Commando Force (ARCF), Bangladesh”s Harkatul Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) and underworld don Dawdood Ibrahim”s network.
