Bangalore civic polls: BJP leads, Cong 2nd

Bangalore, April 05: It is history in the making in Bangalore as for the first time in 54 years the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks set to win the Greater Bangalore City Corporation beating the Congress.

The BJP has taken a decisive lead already winning 71 wards and is leading in 45 others.

The Congress has so far only won 42 wards and the Janata Dal (Secular) has won 10.

If the BJP gets a majority, it’ll be the first time the party comes to power in the civic body since Independence, ending five decades of Congress dominance.

The civic body polls took place on March 28. About 46 per cent of the city’s 6.6 million voters had turned out to cast their ballots to elect 198 representatives from over 1,300 candidates to run the Greater Bangalore City Corporation.
