Patiala, June 27: Patiala observed a bandh on Friday in protest against the death of a 20-year-old youth in a clash outside a liquor vend on Thursday night.
According to the police, the clash took place at Anardana Chowk area after Kala (20), a resident of Dhakka colony, was attacked by the staff and owner of an ahata adjoining the vend. They objected to his consuming liquor outside the drinking area. Kala was hit with bottles on his head and succumbed to his injuries last night.
All major markets remained shut on Friday, with residents of Dhakka colony forcing shopkeepers to down shutters in the walled town area as well as other parts of the town. They allegedly resorted to violence when their attempt met with resistance. A few shops were damaged near the Sheranwala Gate area.
Heaps of garbage lay scattered all over the town with protesters not allowing the waste to be lifted.
