Uighur Muslims are facing ethnic problems in Xinjiang province of China which has predominantly Muslim population.
The attack took place on Monday in a district of Southern City of Kashgar. The suspect killed police officers with knife and bombs after speeding through a traffic checkpoint in a car in Kashgar’s Tahtakoruk district. Policemen responded to the attack and killed 15 suspects terming them as terrorists. This attack occurred at the beginning of the Ramazan which is a holy month for the Muslims.
Telephone call were made to Xinjiang government news office but there was no response. Such reports of ethnic violence are not reported in the local press but the foreign media exposes them. Human Rights Activist reported that the repressive policies of the government such as imposing a ban on fasting and prohibiting the Muslims from offering prayers have provoked unrest among the Muslims but such reports are usually denied in Beijing.
