Hyderabad, August 04: Secretary, Dept of Minorities Welfare Dr. Mohammed Ali Rafath, IAS issued a G.O. canceling the ban on issuing the marriage booklets to Qazis for performing Muslim marriages.
It may be recalled that on a petition submitted by a Qazi saying that Wakf Board has no role to play in Muslim marriages, the then Principal Secretary, Mr. Lingaraj Panigrahi had issued a G.O. imposing a ban on the issue of marriage booklets to Qazis. This G.O. had created an uproar among the Muslims and Wakf Board had passed a resolution opposing Govt’s intervention in Wakf Board’s affairs. Seeing the unrest of the Muslims, Mr. Panigrahi was transferred.
